On a Geological time scale, Planet Earth is moving from the Pleistocene to the Holocene epoch. Each epoch lasts an average of 20 million year, so no great shakes for you or me.
An alternative view is that our Planet is well and truly into the Anthropocene epoch, a period in which an alien life form is re-shaping Earth in a manner that could have extremely unpleasant consequences.
