Fastest growing economies in 2012?

I am well informed.  I know all sorts of useless data. Country capitals, economy size, economy drivers, political dispensations, strategic issues… ask me about them and I can rattle them off for most countries. So when I saw an article with the heading “GDP growth top 10” I decided to test my knowledge.

I wrote down my list of top 10 for 2012 and then checked out the article. Guess what, I got one out of 10 right, so much for being well-informed. Before I reveal the 10 fastest growing economies in 2012, why don’t you give it a shot and see how you fare? Source of data is EIU.

Top growers

  1. Macau (15%)
  2. Mongolia (14.8%)
  3. Libya (13.6%)
  4. Iraq (10.9%)
  5. Angola (9.9%)
  6. Niger (8.5%)
  7. China (8.2%)
  8. Ethiopia and Rwanda (8%)

And number 10 is Laos, with expected GDP growth of 7.9% in 2012.

I got number 7 right. Just goes to show, opportunity thrives in unlikely places. Step out of your comfort zone and explore.
