Saucy Siri is not welcome at IBM. She has been banned outright for loose speech.
IBM says it is not sure what Apple does with the voice queries. Your iPhone will work at the IBM campus, but Siri will be silenced. To think that Siri’s occasional impertinence can provoke such reactions, shocking to say the least?
In what must be rare in the annals of corporate history, left leaning ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) also shares IBM’s concern. To be fair, IBM and ACLU may have a point.
Apple’s licensing agreement says “By using Siri or Dictation, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, and use of this information, including your voice input and User Data, to provide and improve Siri, Dictation, and other Apple products and services”.
Now that does sound heavy-handed! Do a Google search on “Siri banned at IBM”. There’s plenty to read in a privacy debate that is only just starting to heat up.
Counter culture’s favorite company is now the world’s most valuable. There’s simply too much at stake for Apple and they can no longer behave the way they did in the 1980’s.
Has Apple deserted The Cause? Has it become too establishment? Apple’s 1984 commercial was an awesome dig at Big Brother. Now, one fears, they may be becoming The Big Brother.
Is it time for a new Steve jobs to show up?
