No mail, no phone, no net

The Colorado plateau was formed over millions of years as the seas retreated and Nature slowly worked its magic. National parks dot the area and afford extraordinary views of rock formations, canyons and river valleys. I have seen some of the most beautiful places on the planet.

I have also seen what it’s like to live without a cell phone, email and internet because network coverage is thankfully poor in many of these places. No spam mail, no ping or flashing red light on the BB, no phone calls, no compulsive checking of mail… none of the things that define and dictate our lives these days.

It is unsettling at first but within hours you feel liberated. I am on holiday so I suppose it is ok to be un-connected but could one live and work this way? When I did get connected I got my answer. 132 mails of which 65 were spam, on 57 mails I was needlessly copied and only two mails required my attention, but nothing that couldn’t wait a few days.
