No question Facebook is becoming infantile. Far too many updates are pictures of cute (and not so cute) babies. I have nothing against babies or baby pictures but I am single, and my interests run elsewhere. Babies have never figured in my scheme of things.
So what options do I have? I can un-friend people who have just minted a new baby since they will be posting these pictures for years to come or thanks to a new web tool, I can now unbaby my Facebook feed.
Unbaby me is a Google Chrome extension that simply replaces baby pictures with whatever you want. It is programmed to replace baby pictures with cats but if you don’t like our furry friends, you can opt for puppies, girls in bikinis, an RSS feed or anything else. One Twitter user was so overwhelmed with it he proclaimed, “They’ve fixed the Internet”.
Facebook is a good way of keeping in touch with people you don’t want to keep in touch with but it can become trite and banal. Unbaby me is a big step towards refreshing Facebook, and the first of many I hope.
